Julian Stage Line Museum and vehicles
The Transport Museum building (also known as the Stageline Museum) was built as a close replicate of a barn that once stood in this location. The museum now houses two completely restored vehicles. A 1912 Mack Stage and a 1924 Cadillac Bus. Both of the vehicles carried passengers and mail between Foster City and Julian. Foster City was the end of the rail line near Lakeside. The 1912 Mack Stage (gray vehicle) was driven from Foster City via Mussy Grade through Ramona (then known as Santa Maria), up through Ballena, stopping for lunch at the hotel in Witch Creek, then on up the mountain to Julian. The trip took a day traveling over dirt roads. Traveling on hard rubber tires in an open vehicle must have been quite a trip.
The 1924 Cadillac bus was far more comfortable to travel on the same dirt roads.
